Yazy Arbelo Joins Beach Bums Roster
TRAVERSE CITY MI-- The Traverse City Beach Bums have added another big bat in Yazy Arbelo. Arbelo spent the past four seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks system amassing 78 homeruns and 247 RBI. The first baseman from Keystone College was a 26th round pick in 2010 and will fill the need for a left handed power hitter to hit behind returning 2012 MVP Jose Vargas.
“He’s a nice left-handed hitter,” Field Manager Dan Rohn said. “He’s going to complement hitting behind Jose pretty well and break up our two big right-handers with Rosa and Vargas.”
In his last season with Keystone College Arbelo hit for a .389 batting average with 15 homeruns and 33 RBI in just 36 games. His best season as a pro came in 2011 when he hit for a .247 batting average with 31 homeruns and 95 RBI in 134 games with the single-A South Bend Silver Hawks. He should fill the void for a power hitter after Chase Burch was traded to the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks this offseason.
“He’s put up some really nice power numbers the last few years. We'll get him to try and make a little more contact and he'll be a really nice power bat in the middle of our lineup,” said Rohn.
Arbelo spent last season between the Visalia Rawhide of the Diamondbacks system and the New Jersey Jackals of the Canadian-American Association. He hit a combined 6 homeruns with 26 RBI in 56 games.
