THILLING COMEBACK EARNS BUMS SPLIT IN DOUBLEHEADER

TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The Traverse City Beach Bums(18-22) struggled to get the big clutch hit in last night's doubleheader against the Lake Erie Crushers(24-17). That is until the sixth inning of game two, as the Bums scored four runs to earn a split in tonight's doubleheader.

Runs came at a premium on game one as it took until the sixth to see some offense. Cameron Newell, after reaching on fielder's choice, scored the game's first run on a wild pitch. Kewby Meyer notched an RBI single, driving in Aaron Hill, to double the Crushers advantage. The Beach Bums left 10 men on base and had the tying run on base in the seventh but couldn't get on the board, and they fell by a score of 2-0.

Max Biedrzycki pitched one and two-thirds innings in relief for the win, improving to 4-0. He allowed three walks but struck out two. Jordan Desguin was perfect through three innings, had a no-hitter through five, but suffered his first loss of the season, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out seven. He falls to 5-1. Branden Nunn earned his second save of the year, giving up a hit and a walk in the seventh.

Game two's offense started much quicker as Lake Erie took an early 1-0 first inning lead on an RBI single by Doug Trimble. In the top of the sixth, Dustin Williams drove in two more crushers with a double to center for what seemed to be an insurmountable three run deficit. In the bottom of the inning, with one out, the bats came alive.

Will Kengor started the rally with a double off the top of the left field wall, his league-leading 17th. Steve Lohr then walked but was eliminated at second on an Alexis Rivera fielder's choice. So, with runners on the corners, and two outs, the new kids for the Beach Bums took over. Alec Olund snuck a single into left to score Kengor for their first run of the game. Noah McGowan followed with a line shot over the head of right fielder, Tyler Cowles, for a triple, scoring Rivera and Olund, tying the game at three. Pinch hitter Luke Lowery then ripped a single up the middle to give Traverse City the 4-3 win.

Reinaldo Lopez pushed through six solid innings to even his record at 3-3. He allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out two. Crushers reliever Luke Watts suffered the loss, dealing two-thirds of an inning in relief. He gave up three runs on three hits to fall to 0-1. Matt Williams pitched a perfect seventh inning for his fourth save of the season.
