PITCHING WILDNESS RESULTS IN BEACH BUMS LOSS
TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The Traverse City Beach Bums (9-11) received a second straight difficult pitching performance as they walked eight between the fourth and fifth innings in an 11-2 loss to the Joliet Slammers(9-11).
The night had a promising start as Arby Fields started the game by walking then moved to second on an errant pickoff throw. Luke Lowery drove him home with an RBI single to give the Bums a 1-0 lead. Donald Glover Jr. and Kenny Peoples-Walls led off the second with back-to-back opposite field singles. After Max Dutto walked to load the bases, Fields grounded into a double play, scoring Glover to double the lead.
After a scoreless third, the walks became prevalent once again. Justin Garcia walked to start the inning and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Travis Bolin followed with an RBI groundout to tie the game, then Chaz Meadows hit an RBI single and London Lindley hit an RBI double for a two run Slammers lead. With the bases loaded, Garcia was hit by a pitch and Trenton Hill walked to make it a 6-2 game. In the fifth, Lindley hit an RBI single and Danny Zardon drove in two with a double for a 9-2 score. RJ Thompson and Ridge Hoopii-Haslam each hit RBI singles to complete the scoring.
Although he struggled in the beginning, Joliet starter Taylor Goshen picked up the win to improve to 1-1 on the season. He went six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks. Adam Cornwell couldn't complete the fourth inning in giving up six runs on five hits hits and five walks as he falls to 0-3. Matt Williams was a bright spot out of the bullpen for the Bums as he got the last seven outs, allowing one hit, and striking out five. Skylar Janisse earned a three inning save, his first of the year, striking out two.
