KENGOR’S LATE HEROICS LEAD TO BEACH BUMS WIN

CRESTWOOD, IL- The Traverse City Beach Bums’(39-47) and the Windy City Thunderbolts(36-51), for the second straight night, received great starting pitching, this time from John Havird and Eddie Avila, but it was Traverse City picking up the win tonight by a final score of 3-2.

Orlando Rivera took the very first pitch of the game into left field for a lead-off single. Isaac Benard drove him home as he sliced a double to the left field corner for an early 1-0 Bums lead. In the sixth, Derek Bangert tied the game on an RBI single then Matt Brown drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Thunderbolts a 2-1 advantage.

Ryan Kemp led off the eighth inning with a walk then moved to second on a successful sacrifice bunt by Alec Olund. Orlando Rivera grounded out, moving Kemp to third and Isaac Benard walk. Will Kengor then ripped an opposite field double that short-hopped the left field wall, scoring both Kemp and Benard, giving the Beach Bums the lead for good.

Tyler Barss earned the win in relief for his first professional victory. He went one and a third innings, striking out two to improve to 1-1 on the season. Jack Andersen is dealt the loss, hurling one inning, and allowing two runs on a hit and two walks. He falls to 2-5.
