TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The Traverse City Beach Bums are proud to announce that five members of the 2018 squad have been selected for the upcoming Frontier League All-Star Game, to be played on Wednesday, July 11th at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, MO. With the new format of Rookies vs. Experienced player, Beach Bums will be pitted against each other for bragging rights.

For the third consecutive season, Shortstop Will Kengor has been selected for the mid-season classic. He has a batting average of .324, seven homers, 30 runs batted in, 103 total bases, and a .575 slugging percentage, all of which are top 10 in the league. The former Tigers farmhand leads the league in doubles(20), at bats(179), hits(58), and extra base hits(29). He is currently riding a five game hit streak and will play for the Experienced team.

Steve Lohr will join Will on the Experienced team for his first selection to the Frontier League mid-summer classic. He is tied with Kengor for the team lead in batting with a .324 average, which is good enough for third in the league. Lohr has added two home runs and 16 runs batted in to his inaugural season in Traverse City, along with eight doubles and a triple. The former Texas Rangers product leads the league in walks with 33, and in second place on base percentage with a .453. Back on May 28th, he was named the Frontier League's Player of the Week.

Isaac Benard will be the lone member of the Rookie team at the All-Star Game. His is hitting .269 with four homers, five doubles, and 18 runs batted in. The Tampa Bay Rays draft pick has been among the more consistent additions to the Beach Bums team this season. In each game from May 19th to June 27th, a span of 29 games, Isaac found a way to reach base, via a hit, walk, or hit by pitch. That included a nine game hitting streak from June 10th to June 20th.

Starting pitcher, Jordan Desguin, will take the mound for the Experienced team in this year's game. This will be his second All-Star nod as he was selected to pitch for the Pioneer League in their 2016 game against the Northwest League. This season, he is 5-1 with a league second-best earned run average of 2.16. The five wins that he's accrued has him tied for fourth in the league. He has 41 strikeouts in 41.2 innings while walking only 16. Back on June 14th, against the River City Rascals, the former Brewers pick hurled a complete-game one-hitter, with the lone single being an infield hit. That performance, which included eight strikeouts and no walks, led him to be named that weeks' Frontier League Pitcher of the Week.

Reliever John Michael Knighton, who was the 2018 Frontier League Draft number one pick, will round out the Bums selections as part of the bullpen on the Experienced team. He has a record of 3-3 and a 2.36 earned run average and a team-high seven saves, which lands him sixth in the league. In 26.2 innings, he has struck out 29 while walking just six, solidifying the back end of the Beach Bums relieving corps.

Congratulations to all of the Beach Bums selections on this great honor of being chosen to represent the Traverse City Beach Bums with the finest of the Frontier League. 2018 marks the most Beach Bums selected to the All-Star Game since the championship season of 2015, when six players and the entire coaching staff were picked.

Today, the Beach Bums return home in what will ultimately be a six game home stand, beginning with a three game set against the Southern Illinois Miners and concluding with a set against the Gateway Grizzlies. Kurt Heyer gets the start for Southern Illinois and Jordan Desguin takes the bump for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call, starting with the Budweiser pregame show, at 6:45pm. You can listen along from anywhere in the world at
