TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The Traverse City Beach Bums(4-7), after nine games on the road, finally opened the gates of Wuerfel Park to their home fans, but dropped two 7-inning contests to the Florence Freedom(8-3) by scores of 9-6 and 2-0.

Florence got on the board in the very first inning, an RBI double by Jose Brizuela, a grounder by Andre Mercurio, and an RBI single by Keivan Berges, but the Beach Bums battled back in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Luke Lowery left a single into left, scoring Donald Glover Jr., who led the inning off by getting hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Steve Lohr carried a deep fly ball over the right field wall for a three run homer, to make it a 4-3 game.

Florence got the lead back in the second with help from RBI singles by Brizuela, Mercurio, and Berges. Sandwiched in-between was a RBI double by Xavier Turner, and once again, Florence led by four. In the fourth, Traverse City tried to chip away at the deficit. Max Dutto led off with a walk then scored on a Kenny Peaoples-Walls RBI double. Peoples-Walls scored himself on an infield hit by Isaac Benard. Florence got one last run in the fifth on a Ryan Rinsky RBI single.

Both starters struggled in game one but Cody Gray fought through four innings to pick up the win. He allowed six runs on six and three walks, improving to 2-1. Reinaldo Lopez suffered the loss in a rare short outing, going just one and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on 11 hits. He falls to 0-2. Patrick McGrath nabbed the save, ending the game in a double play.

Game two was a completely different kind of ballgame with both teams going scoreless through the first four innings. Finally, in the fifth, Florence broke through when Rinsky scored on a Connor Crane RBI single. They added another run in the sixth after Mercurio doubled and was plated by Turners single. The Beach Bums brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh but couldn't complete the comeback.

Florence's Marty Anderson came within one out of a complete game shutout, allowing two hits and four walks while striking out eight. He improves to 2-0. John Havird was solid through five innings, giving up a run on three hits and a walk, as he fanned five, but he suffers the loss. Jameson McGrane got the last out via a strikeout for the save.
