TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The final inning of each end of tonight's doubleheader was the downfall of the Traverse City Beach Bums(11-17) as they lost twice to the River City Rascals(17-11), by scores of 8-1 and 8-7.

After four scoreless innings in game one, River City got on the board in the fifth on a Kevin Suarez sacrifice fly. With one in the sixth, Will Kengor doubled to right then scored on Luke Lowery's RBI triple to even the game at one. In the seventh, River City brought 11 men to the plate, and scored seven runs, highlighted by a bases-loaded walk to JD Hearn, two-run singles by Stephen Kerr and Mike Jurgella, and a two-run double by Paul Kronenfeld, as the Bums fell 8-1.

Joe Iorio threw the last two innings for the win to improve to 3-1 after he allowed a run on three hits. John Havird had a solid six innings but struggled in the seventh as he allowed three runs on four hits and two walks, while fanning seven. He falls to 1-3.

In game two, the teams traded single runs in the first inning. Clint Freeman got a sacrifice fly for the Rascals and the Beach Bums picked up an RBI double from lowery, after Kengor started a two-out rally with a single. With on out in the third, Braxton Martinez hit a solo homer for the Rascals as they regained the lead by one. In the bottom of the inning, Max Dutto walked then Isaac Benard hit a two-run bomb, his third homer of the season, giving the Bums a 3-2 lead.

River City came right back in the fourth when Connor Oliver and Jurgella each hit RBI doubles, and the Rascals led again by one. In the fifth, Dutto singled and Isaac Benard walked to start a one-out scoring opportunity. Kengor then drove in a run on a single, and both him and Benard scored on separate wild pitches. Steve Lohr finished the frame with a sacrifice fly, and Traverse City led 7-4.

The Rascals got a run back on a sixth inning sacrifice fly by Kronenfeld, pulling within two. In the seventh, Hearn singled in a run and Jurgella gave River City the lead for good on another sacrifice fly. With two outs in the bottom of the inning, the Beach Bums got the tying run on second, and the winning run on first, but could not complete another comeback.

Tanner Wilt earned the win for River City, pitching a perfect sixth inning with two strikeouts. He's now 1-0. John Michael Knighton is dealt the loss, after getting the last out of the sixth and giving up the lead in the seventh. He falls to 3-3. Cody Mincey earned his ninth save but it wasn't easy as he allowed a hit and a walk but struck out one.

The Beach Bums and Rascals conclude this week's three game series with one last game tonight. Lucas Laster will get the start for River City while Jordan Desguin takes the hill for the Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call, starting with the Budweiser pregame show, at 6:45pm. It will be two seven-inning games.
