TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The Traverse City Beach Bums(20-25) fell behind 2-0 after the first but couldn't get the bats going as they drop the first game against the Southern Illinois Miners(24-18), 3-1.

Souther Illinois started with a mini two out rally when Nolan Earley singled and Chance Shepard belted a two-run homer over the right-centerfield wall for his 14th of the season. After a scoreless second, Max Dutto led off the third and hit two long fly balls over the right field wall, but they were both ruled foul. Kendall Patrick followed with a double into right field then scored on an Orlando Rivera single, pulling the Beach Bums within one. The Miners picked up an insurance run in the eight on an Earley RBI single.

Kurt Heyer earned the win for Southern Illinois, going eight innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out eight. He improves to 4-3. Jordan Desguin was solid through seven and two-thirds but drops to 5-2 with the night's loss. He allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk. Kyle Tinius was perfect in the ninth with two strikeouts for his fourth save.
