BEACH BUMS EARLY BARRAGE BASHES BOOMERS

TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The Traverse City Beach Bums(25-27) used some long ball action in last night's first inning on their way to an 11-3 win over the Schaumburg Boomers(27-25).

For the second straight night, Schaumburg got on the board to start the game as Jack Parenty scored on an error. However, what was different last night, was the Beach Bums immediate response. In the bottom of the inning Isaac Benard got the offense started with a one out single. Will Kengor put the Beach Bums on the board and in the lead with a two run blast over the right field wall, his eighth homer of the season. Luke Lowery went back-to-back with his sixth launch of the season for a 3-1 lead.

The scoring in the inning wouldn't stop there as Steve Lohr, making his return from injury, would single, then Connor Oliver was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Alec Olund slammed a triple to the right field gap, adding two more runs to the ledger. Newcomer, Ryan Kemp, who was just signed yesterday morning, offered at the first pitch he saw and drove in Olund with a single up the middle, giving the Bums a 6-1 advantage.

Schaumburg picked up solo runs in the second and third, thanks to Sean Godfrey's RBI single and Collin Ferguson's home run, but the Beach Bums started to pull away in the fourth. Kemp led off with a walk then moved to second on Orlando Rivera's single. After a successful sacrifice bunt by Benard, Will Kengor was intentionally walked to load the bases. With two outs, Lohr drew the walk for a 7-3 lead.

In the fifth, the Beach Bums broke it open again, bringing 10 men to the plate for the second time. Noah McGowan led off with a single, then after an out, Kemp drove him home with his first pro double. Orlando Rivera drove him home with a single to center for a six run lead. After the second out, Kengor walked and Lowery was hit by a pitch for the 12th time this season to load the bases and Lohr singled in two runs to close out the scoring.

Reinaldo Lopez allowed single runs in the first three innings but stuck around for seven solid innings for the win. He allowed six hits and struck out one to improve his record to 5-3. Will Stillman suffered the loss to drop to 0-2. He allowed seven runs on nine hits and three walks.
