TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The Traverse City Beach Bums(31-32) trailed by seven after four innings, pulled within one, and had the winning run at second in the ninth, but ultimately dropped a 7-6 decision to the Washington Wild Things(34-30).

Washington got the scoring started in the first inning when Hector Roa drove in two with a double. After a 20 minute storm delayed the fourth, the Wild Things added a three run homer by James Harris and a two run blast by Mike Hill, for a 7-0 game.

In the sixth, the Beach Bums were finally able to break through. With two away, Will Kengor singled into right field then moved to second when Steve Lohr was hit by a pitch. Connor Oliver continued his torrid hitting with a two run double to make it a 7-2 game. Kendall Patrick led off the seventh with a double down the right field line. He moved to second on a Ryan Kemp fly ball, then scored when Orlando Rivera singled to left, pulling the Bums within four.

Steve Lohr singled to start off the eighth inning then Oliver and Luke Lowery walked to load the bases. Lohr then scored on a double play ball for a 7-4 deficit. With one out in the ninth, Orlando Rivera reached on an infield single then moved to second on a passed ball. Isaac Benard followed with an infield hit of his own, moving Orlando to third. Will Kengor singled up the middle to knock in a run, pulling the Bums within two. After Steve Lohr Lohr singled. Connor Oliver drove in Benard with a sacrifice fly, but that is as close as they would come.

Trevor Bradley earned the win for Washington, going six innings and allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. He improves to 4-2. Justin Finan is dealt the loss to drop to 0-4. He went four innings, giving up seven runs on 12 hits. Zach Strecker picked up the save as he gave up two runs on four hits and a walk in the ninth, his 14th of the season.

Tonight, the Beach Bums and Washington Wild Things continue this weekend's three game set with game two. Washington's starting pitcher will be Levi MaVorhis and Matt Murphy goes for the Beach Bums.
