Season Outlook: "Derkes is a true leadoff hitter and quality defender that can play all three outfield spots,” said Jason Wuerfel, Beach Bums Director of Baseball Operations. “He’s a switch hitter and a tough out from both sides of the plate. He’s the type of guy that sees a lot pitches, draws walks, and can cause havoc on the base paths.”

Previous Experience: Derkes split time between two levels in the Rockies’ minor league system in 2015, playing for both the Boise Hawks and Asheville Tourists. He hit a combined .231 with a home run and 28 RBI. He also stole 23 bases. The 21 stolen bases he amassed for Boise ranked sixth in the Northwest League.

In 2014, the San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico native was a Northwest League All-Star, hitting 10 doubles and a pair of homers while stealing 22 bases in 24 attempts for the Tri-City Dust Devils. He posted a .360 on-base percentage and finished fifth in the league in steals.

For his career, Derkes has hit .247 in 203 games with a .371 on-base percentage, three home runs, 63 RBI and has 68 stolen bases.
