2010 SEASON OUTLOOK
Cruz is an experienced player with above average defensive ability at all three outfield positions. Offensively, he is a top of the order hitter who can draw a walk, won't strike out, and if the pitcher makes a mistake, he has the ability to pop a ball out of the park.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Cruz was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 40th round of the 2008 draft. He played in 44 games for the Cardinals’ Appalachian League affiliate, Johnson City, in 2008. Cruz hit one homerun and had nine RBI. The outfielder joined the Quad Cities River Bandits in the Midwest League for the 2009 campaign. He had three homeruns and drove in 20 runs while posting a .260 batting average in 54 games. The Brandon, Fla. native made at least 12 starts at each outfield position. He went 3-for-4 with a homerun, two RBI and two runs scored against the Dayton Dragons on May 20, 2009.
COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
Cruz played his final two collegiate baseball seasons at the University of Tampa. In 2007, he hit .357 with four homeruns, nine doubles, five triples to go with 32 RBI as the Spartans won the Division II National Championship.
