7/24/2010 - TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Beach Bums carved up the Washington Wild Things hitters as Enrique Lechuga and two relievers tossed a two-hit shutout, beating Washington 1-0 finishing off a three game sweep.
The win was the sixth in a row for the Beach Bums who now sit all alone in second place at 32-25 on the season.
After pitching dominated the beginning of the game, the Beach Bums got on the board in the fifth as Andrew Franco and Paul Cruz singled to lead off the inning. Chris Engell sacrificed the runners to second and third. Matt Brown followed with a groundout to second to score Franco for a 1-0 lead.
That was the only offense as pitching ruled the night. Enrique Lechuga (5-3) was superb as he shut out the Wild Things over seven innings, retiring the final 11 batters he faced. The lefthander allowed just two hits, walking two and striking out three. Scott Dunn tossed a perfect eighth and Scott Mueller shut down the Wild Things in the ninth, earning his 11th save of the year, striking out Mark McGonigle for the final out. Zach Rosenbaum (1-6) took the loss for Washington despite tossing a five-hit complete game.
In the ballgame, Matt Brown was hit by a pitch and walked, extending his consecutive game on-base streak to 33 contests.
Traverse City now heads down for a three game set at Kalamazoo. Michael Moore (5-1, 2.34) will start for the Beach Bums. The Kings starter has not been announced. Sunday’s game is a daytime contest starting at 1:05 p.m.
