6/19/2010 - TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Ryan Platt set career highs with seven innings pitched and nine strikeouts, but the Lake Erie Crushers scored three runs over the final four innings of the game to defeat the Traverse City Beach Bums 3-0 on Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Wuerfel Park.
As might have been expected based on the records and collective ERA of the two starting pitchers, a low scoring battle began right from the outset. Ryan Platt allowed a two out hit in the first inning and then retired 12 straight batters, six of them on strikes. Josh Roberts was up to the task allowing the Beach Bums two hits through the first five innings.
Lake Erie got the first run of the game in the sixth when Jodam Rivera and Andrew Davis hit back-to-back doubles to put the Crushers up 1-0. With two down in the bottom of the seventh, Arden McWilliams went the other way, taking a Platt pitch over the leftfield fence for a solo homer and a 2-0 Lake Erie advantage. Lake Erie would tack on one more in the ninth to create the final margin
Josh Roberts (3-0) picked up the win with seven shutout innings. Jeff Cinadr recorded his first save of the year. Ryan Platt took the hard luck loss.
Despite the final outcome, the Beach Bums did have some positive moments when Chase Burch extended his hitting streak to seven games while JT Hall reached base three times.
Traverse City now heads out on the road for a three game set at Washington. Jonny Bravo (0-0, 1.59) goes to the mound for Traverse City against Steve Macfarland (2-1, 7.05) for Washington.
