RIVERHAWKS SALVAGE SERIES FINALE

6/7/2012 - The Traverse City Beach Bums got seven strong innings out of Jacob Clem and the Beach Bums outhit Rockford 8-4, but a pair of walks and a trio of errors conspired against Traverse City as they fell to the RiverHawks 4-1. Beach Bums fans smile for the camera in a Pete Walters photograph.

The Beach Bums got off to a good start as with Ryan Still on first base and two out, Chase Burch walked to put runners on first and second. Jeff Flagg came up and dropped a single into rightfield to score Still for a 1-0 TC lead.

The score would stay that way into the fourth when Rockford had Evan Button and Jet Butler reach via base on balls. An errant throw on a pickoff attempt moved the runners to second and third. After a pair of strikeouts held the runners on their respective bases, Matt Greener doubled down the leftfield line to score the pair and make it 2-1 Rockford.

The RiverHawks would cap the scoring in the game during the eighth when they had two runners reach on errors, both coming in to score.

Cody Hallahan (1-1) picked up the win with five shutout innings of relief, piggybacking off the four-inning start from Mike Lee. Jacob Clem (1-2) took the loss, despite pitching well, not allowing an earned run over a career-high seven innings. He walked two and struck out a career-high five.

Evansville now comes into town for a weekend series. Friday night will see David Deminsky (1-1 ,9.37) on the mound for Traverse City against former Beach Bum, Bryce Morrow (2-1, 5.06) for the Otters. It is Social Media Night and a FANtastic Fireworks Friday. Fans can win tickets to a future Beach Bums game by tweeting or following the Beach Bums on Twitter of Facebook during the game and a Fireworks display will be shot off in the postgame festivities.
