MILLER BACK IN FOLD FOR 2012

3/28/2012 - TRAVERSE CITY, MI — The Traverse City Beach Bums continue to add depth to their pitching staff as the team announced the resigning of Matt Miller.

Miller joined the Beach Bums just before the All-Star break last season and was a key component to the Beach Bums success in the second half of the year. The right-hander out of Eastern Illinois University went 1-0 in 13 games with a save and a 3.08 ERA.

"Miller was outstanding for us last year after coming in mid-season,” said Jason Wuerfel, Director of Baseball Operations. “He generates a surprising amount of velocity for a submarine pitcher and has a lot of movement that can eat up right-handed hitters. We expect him to be at the back-end of the bullpen again this year."

His best outing of the season came on July 19 when Miller tossed four shutout innings against Washington, allowing just two hits, walking none and striking out five.

Miller signed with Traverse City following his senior season with the Panthers. Serving as Eastern Illinois’ closer, Miller notched seven saves in 28 appearances. He struck out 35 batters in 38 innings and held opponents to a .241 average against.
